This module is used for managing the device’s SIM card or Wi-Fi, or for Ethernet with batch communications.
The software module manages the signal strength - it uses the best communications possible. For instance, if the driver is in the warehouse, it will use the Wi-Fi connection, as this will provide a stronger signal. Then as he starts driving away, the software will change over to using GPRS and 3G. As a result, the user doesn't have to worry about the specific type of communications they are using.
The communications module also provides a ‘store and forward’ capability. Consequently, if there are no communications at all, the application can continue to run. When the device is back in an area where communications are available, the software will re-connect and will synchronise the data to the server.
